Oman is gearing up to launch the “Imtidad” Community Solar Power Stations Programme next week, a significant stride towards enhancing public involvement in renewable energy initiatives. Spearheaded by the Public Services Regulation Authority (PSRA) alongside licensed electricity providers, this programme enables residents and businesses to harness solar power benefits without needing to install panels on their own premises.
Participants in the programme will enjoy credits on their electricity bills, courtesy of solar energy generated by community solar stations integrated into the national grid. This model is designed to lower energy expenses, foster the adoption of clean energy, and support Oman’s transition to a sustainable energy landscape. A highlight of the programme’s launch is the unveiling of the Wadi Al Kabir Community Solar Power Station, marking the first project under the Imtidad initiative and Oman’s inaugural community-based solar facility.
Authorities have plans to extend similar projects across the nation progressively. They emphasize that the initiative will yield economic, social, and environmental advantages by promoting investment in renewable energy, bolstering local businesses, generating employment opportunities, and enhancing energy efficiency.
