Oman and Pakistan have taken significant steps to enhance their bilateral relations by signing a visa exemption agreement and four memoranda of understanding (MoUs). These agreements aim to bolster cooperation in several key sectors, including technology, telecommunications, broadcasting, and archival services. The formal signing took place at the Prime Minister’s Office in Islamabad, with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi in attendance.
Representing their respective nations, Al Busaidi and Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar signed the agreements. This development also included the signing of the minutes from the eighth session of their Joint Ministerial Committee, emphasizing both countries’ commitment to expanding their relations.
The visa exemption agreement specifically targets holders of diplomatic, special, service, and official passports, facilitating easier travel for eligible officials between the two countries. This move is expected to streamline official interactions and foster closer ties.
The four MoUs signed cover cooperation in telecommunications and information technology, radio and television broadcasting, news and information exchange, and collaboration between Oman’s National Records and Archives Authority and Pakistan’s National Archives. These agreements are designed to strengthen institutional ties, enhance coordination between government agencies, and facilitate the exchange of technical expertise and information.
These latest agreements represent a meaningful advancement in Oman-Pakistan relations, marking a strategic effort to develop partnerships across sectors of mutual interest. The focus on enhancing cooperation in technology and information exchange reflects a broader intent to strengthen institutional capabilities and foster long-term collaboration.
