Oman has reiterated its dedication to peaceful conflict resolution during the 81st United Nations General Assembly, emphasizing dialogue and diplomacy as key strategies. Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi highlighted the importance of building trust and addressing crises through non-violent means while respecting national sovereignty and international law.
Addressing regional security, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz, Al Busaidi expressed concern over the impact of ongoing conflicts on navigation and trade. He reinforced Oman’s commitment to safeguarding maritime freedom in line with international law and called for restraint and dialogue to settle disputes. The minister also expressed solidarity with Gulf countries in maintaining regional security and sovereignty.
In regard to Yemen, Oman continues to advocate for a political resolution that ensures the country’s unity and stability. Al Busaidi urged all involved parties to work towards an agreement that protects the rights and dignity of the Yemeni people, contributing to their reconstruction and development efforts.
Oman also reaffirmed its support for Palestinian rights, condemning Israeli actions in the region and advocating for the establishment of a Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, aligning with the two-state solution and relevant UN resolutions.
Highlighting domestic priorities, Al Busaidi underscored Oman’s commitment to sustainable development as part of Oman Vision 2040. This includes initiatives in renewable energy, sustainable transport, and green industries, with a goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. Additionally, Oman is promoting tolerance and countering hate speech through initiatives like the Muscat Plan, working in cooperation with the United Nations.
