India clinched the Asian Games men’s cricket gold medal with a thrilling 19-run victory over Pakistan at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan. This victory marks India’s successful defense of their title, further solidifying their dominance over Pakistan in T20 internationals.
Batting first, India set an imposing target by reaching 211/6, thanks to a rapid start from Abhishek Sharma and a crucial late onslaught by Tilak Varma. Abhishek blazed through to a quick half-century, helping India achieve their highest Powerplay score of 81/2 against Pakistan in T20Is. Despite a middle-order resurgence by Pakistani bowlers Arafat Minhas, Ahmed Daniyal, and Abrar Ahmed, which slowed down India’s momentum, Tilak Varma’s unbeaten 51 off 22 balls, supported by Shivam Dube’s 27, propelled India to a challenging total.
In response, Pakistan mounted a strong chase with Hasan Nawaz leading the effort. Nawaz smashed an unbeaten 96 from 51 balls, sharing an 87-run partnership with Saim Ayub that put India under considerable pressure. However, the Indian bowlers regained control as Washington Sundar’s excellent 18th over disrupted Pakistan’s momentum, while Jasprit Bumrah tightened the screws in the penultimate over.
Entering the final over, Pakistan needed an improbable 33 runs. Shivam Dube held his nerve to defend the target successfully, ensuring a 19-run victory for India and securing another Asian Games gold medal for the Indian men’s cricket team.
