Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky took to social media to reject Russian allegations of a drone attack on Vladimir Putin’s residence, calling them “typical Russian lies.” Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump expressed his anger after Putin informed him about the alleged incident.
Russian authorities claim that 91 long-range drones were launched toward Putin’s Novgorod region property during overnight hours. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that all aerial vehicles were intercepted and destroyed but characterized the alleged attempt as “state terrorism.”
Trump’s public comments emphasized his displeasure with what he viewed as an attack on a leader’s personal residence during peace negotiations. Speaking to reporters, he distinguished between military operations and targeting a world leader’s home, suggesting the latter undermines diplomatic efforts.
In his social media post, Zelensky warned that Russia might be creating a false narrative to justify planned strikes against Ukrainian government buildings. He noted that Moscow has previously targeted such facilities in Kyiv and accused Russia of attempting to undermine diplomatic progress.
The controversy comes just one day after Trump and Zelensky met in Florida and expressed optimism about peace prospects. The Kremlin’s announcement that Russia would reassess negotiations following Trump’s call with Putin indicates the dispute has already impacted the peace process.
